SedgeHammer, SedgeHammer+, Others

Common Name: halosulfuron

Formulation: 75WDG, + (with surfactant)

Uses: Postemergence control of sedges, such as purple and yellow nutsedge, in established lawns, ornamental turfgrass and landscaped areas and non-crop sites such as golf courses, public recreation areas, residential properties, and right-of-ways. May also be used on fallow areas prior to establishment of turfgrass or woody ornamental plants.

Amount of active ingredient

Amount by formulation

75WDG

Per Acre

0.031 to 0.062 lb.

0.66 to 1.33 oz.

Per 1,000 sq. ft.

0.4 to 0.9 g

Equisetum control

0.125 lb.

2.66 oz./A or 1.8 g/1000 sf

Spot Treatment (spray solution) (add 1/3 fl. oz. nonionic surfactant per gallon)

0.9 g/1 or 2 gal water/1000 sf

Major Weeds Controlled: Purple nutsedge, yellow nutsedge, and horsetail (Equisetum arvense). SedgeHammer 75WDG will suppress kyllinga when applied postemergence.

Major Weeds Not Controlled: Large weeds or any grass weeds.

For Best Results: Apply to nutsedge after it has reached the three- to eight-leaf stage of growth. Two applications, 6 to 10 weeks apart, may be required. Apply to horsetail after it has leafed out. For fallow treatments in production areas, allow four weeks between application and seeding or transplanting. Use 0.25 to 0.5 percent nonionic surfactant concentration for broadcast applications of SedgeHammer 75WDG. SedgeHammer+ contains a non-ionic surfactant: add one pouch (0.5 oz.) to one gallon of water to treat 1000 sq. ft.

Cautions and Precautions: No more than four applications of SedgeHammer 75WDG can be made with the total use rate not to exceed 0.25 lb. AI/A per season. Use as a post-directed spray around established woody ornamentals. Allow three months after transplanting before applying.

Residual Activity: High stability on soil. Short to moderate persistence.

Volatility and Leaching Potential: Very low volatilization or photodegradation. Depending on soil pH, low to medium leaching potential. Subject to hydrolysis in moist soils.

Symptoms and Mode of Action: Absorbed by roots and germinating plant shoots. Inhibits synthesis of amino acids.

Manufacturer: Gowan Company
